Student of the Month:  Mike Bates announced that Hunter Hanlon is our SOM.  His parents are Thomas and Kelly.  Squalicum counselor Michelle Nilson introduced Hunter, who is a senior honor student at Squalicum HS, an athlete, has job experience and put in lots of volunteering time with Red Cross, Interact Club.  He will be attending West Point Military Academy this fall. 
 
New Member Inductions:  
 
Doug Wight introduced Jim Haupt, GM of Bellwether Hotel http://www.hotelbellwether.com , Jim has been very active in community service.  He grew up in Mt Vernon, attended Skagit Valley College / Wenatchee / WSU, hospitality service in Seattle and Sun Valley, most recently serving as GM at Hotel Bellwether.  Two kids: Andrea (at WWU, and now studying dance at Juilliard in NYC), and Hannah who is a world-class snowboarder (almost Olympian!).
 
Steve Brummell introduced Erik Dyrland, owner of a local Famers Insurance Agency, http://www.dyrlandinsurance.com started in 1997.  Erik was raised in Bellingham.  He and his wife, Jennifer, have two kids, both at Bellingham High School.  Erik involved in B&G Club as a board member, March of Dimes, among other local orgs. 
 
Gibb Clark thanked our club for our recent $15K donation to Interfaith Community Health Center.

  • Christine making progress on her NautiGirl trademark issue, a couple more relatives moving in to her house, NautiGirl closing the brick and mortar shop to focus online;
  • Steve Spitzer going to visit wife’s aging relatives on East Coast, then off to US Coast Guard for work, and enjoyed granddaughter’s 5th birthday in Seattle;
  • Bill Gorman road trip in the RV went well (Las Vegas, etc.);
  • Tonja Myers welcome to Jim and Erik, some proud bucks for her son Ian quartet going to State Finals, his quartet is actually playing tonight 7pm at Broadway Hall, also Ian WON the State competition in drama!

  • Lesa Boxx $100 to Foundation, missed meetings, and a 50th birthday!

  • Terry Myers last week endured a State certification and survived!
  • Kendall Olson, said grandfather diagnosed with Alzheimers, Kendall just got on the B&G Club board, training last week (for Minolta), attended Seattle’s HUGE 700 member Rotary club, welcome to Rotary for her former boss Jim Haupt, and she wants to become a Paul Harris this year; 
  • Jill Reid missed meetings, next week celebrating 15 years with B&G Club.

  • Lance Calloway going with hockey team Blazers to CT next week, also he just picked the team for Bellingham’s Select soccer team;

Program
Bill Geyer introduced Ray Barbeau, who retired in 2002, but recently has provided ministry to prison populations, and now on board of Brigadoon Service Dog organization.  http://www.brigadoondogs.com  The Mission:  To train dogs to provide assistance to Veterans, children and adults with physical, developmental disabilities, anxiety, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury.
 
Ray told a couple stories about a veteran with PTSD, and a disabled girl, and the beneficial use of service dogs.  
 
Part of Brigadoon is working at Cedar Creek Corrections Center (south of Olympia) using inmates to train service dogs.
 
Also Brigadoon will start work soon with Stafford Correction Center (to work with veteran inmates): Veterans training dogs for other veterans. 
 
Brigadoon is seeking a board member who is a veteran.
