Bob Moles introduced Brian Griffin, a founder (now retired) of Unity Group; Brian has been a very active and successful civic leader in Bellingham for many years - involved in parking issues downtown, Boulevard Park acquisition, one of the Fairhaven Village Green, Depot Market Square, and many other important projects.  Brian has also always had an interest in preserving history - he has written several books about history of Bellingham.

Brian is now studying the story of JJ Donovan.  JJ Donovan was a very (maybe the most) important leader in Bellingham from 1888 (when he arrived) until 1937 when he died. He was a civil engineer who kept meticulous notes.  Brian got so interested in this man and his story that he secured a date for an exhibit at Whatcom Museum starting April, 2013.  He is now gathering information for the show.  One by one, Brian has managed to contact relatives of JJ Donovan, who often have amazing artifacts to contribute to the show.  Mountains of correspondence.  Also recently came upon 29 minutes of Donovan home movies from 1925.
Donovan came to Fairhaven in 1888 and initially worked for the Fairhaven Land Company.  He helped build the rail link from Sedro Wooley to Fairhaven in hopes that would be the terminus of the trans Continental railroad. He was later a founder of the Bloedel Donovan Lumber Company at the end of Cornwall Ave.  For a time it was largest sawmill in world.  Many more contributions to Bellingham.  Brian invites everyone to come visit the exhibit on Donovan that will be at the Whatcom Museum in April, 2013.

Bob Tull wins the raffle.
