About 10 or more days ago, I received an E-Mail from Stowe Talbot, and he stated that since he would be heading for either Taiwan, Indonesia or Thailand, (I don't recall exactly which country), and asked if I would do the SOUNDINGS for 1/3/'06 -- well, since I do not know how to say NO in Taiwanese, Barasa or Chinese, respectively, I felt that I , (Stan Dyer) should say YES to his request---so, here it is, folks (Rotarians, that is):

ANNOUNCEMENTS
...From Art Runestrand: The next 'Work Party' for the Homes for Humanity will be in late March, and if you want to be involved in that project, you must complete a form that Art possesses before that date;
...From Ron Hardesty: The Centennial Project continues (aka Taylor Street Project), and more information will be available soon;
...also from Ron Hardesty: Reporting for the Nominating Committee for the Rotary Year of 2006-2007, for President, BARRY KRAMER, VP, ORPHALEE SMITH, Secretary, G. DENNIS ARCHER, Treasurer, BOB YOST, new Directors, TERRY BROWN & STEVE BRUMMEL, Program Chair, TIM McEVOY. RON HARDESTY, SARAH ROTHENBUHLER & TODD RAMSAY will continue on the Board as they were last year. It was voted on by acclimation that the proposed slate be approved -- so, there you are, folks -- the BOARD of Directors for 1 July 2006 thru 30 June of 2007.

BUCKS in the BAY:
...The Northside Staff (Shannon, Cindy and Eric) sent their accumulative 'thanks' for the Christmas gift that we had given them in December;
...BARRY KRAMER in recognition of his new 'problems' taking over the management of some Golf Course in Bellingham
...BOB JONES for missing two meetings and becoming a grandpa;
...Daddy HANSEN for his brand spanking new baby boy (named Lucas) who came into the world about the 26th of December -- he said that he was ready for another, but was cautioned to discuss this thought with his wife!!;
...RON HARDESTY, who stated that he was spending spare time at 'The Green Frog' that his son now owns -- and I was told that if you catch RON there at the right time, he will offer you a sample of any imbibement that is served;
...ROBIN SCHMIDT for missing a meeting or two and for some other infraction that is garbled in my note taking;
...PHIL HAGEMAN who announced the ground breaking of another construction project for his firm;
...LANCE CALLOWAY, who (I think) said he went to Dallas, Texas to get married. If I am incorrect, LANCE, just let me know and a correction will be printed next week!!
...TIM McEVOY, who relayed the fact that his son was married at 9,000 feet in Mexico, and is evidently still out of breath---muy bien, senor TIM;
...CURT (don't talk to me about Fluoride anymore) SMITH, had about 19 relatives over for Christmas, and we think that most of them went home after the festivities were completed;
...ART RUNESTRAND, was with family, and thanked the Fire Chief for hiring one of his off-spring -- or was that ED ZECH who said that?;
...TONJA MYERS gave up some bucks (dollars, that is) for being closer to 40 than 50 on her recent birthday;
...PHIL SCHWAB, who went to Holland for his dad's Class Reunion -- and will return with him next year---Uhhh?;
...ED ZECH, who had all of his family together for Christmas and that is also lots of folks -- also, assisted in the Commissioning of his daughter into the U. S, Navy somewhere in Minnesota or Wisconsin, or....;
...DENISE BOSMAN who thanked all who called regarding her mother's recent passing -- also, some proud comments about her son and daughter -- the mention of her daughter receiving her driver's license, so all who know, stay off of the road for 6 months until the young lady knows how to make that buggy of hers be safe; ...ORPHALEE SMITH, for her 25 years as a CPA in her own practice;

SERGEANT at ARMS With The Judge (Dave Nichols, of course) in charge, there was hilarity for all
...Nailed PHIL H. for not using a sharper blade;
...Hit BYRON S. for practicing law without a license; ...For a dollar or two, noted that DEAN B. was now a Judge of question (or is that 'of Note?')
...another buck or two assessed against MATT E. for showing up for Rotary on 27 December, and wanting to get credit for a make-up -- duuuuh;
...Hit a Two Spot against CHUCK O. for "....still practicing something or another...";
...a Simoleon or two for EDDIE H. for wanting another child without discussing it with his wife -- Eddie, it takes two to do that sort of thing!
...some Bellingham Dollars for ANNA W. for comments after the election -- her election, of course!!
...noted that TONJA M. was a well dressed Rotarian -- don't think that money passed because of this;
...ORPHALEE S. was hit with non-tax deductible dollars for handing out the semi-annual dues so soon after Christmas
...and, there were others that helped in stuffing the coffers because of their infractions, recognitions or other noted reasons
THANKS, Judge, you are the best!!!

PROGRAM for the Day NANCY BITTING, Rotarian with the Monday Club and hospital CEO, spoke on the various reasons that our Hospital does well, and many of the reasons that it will continue to do just that. Also, many other comments that related to the Hospital, and how it operates and serves the community. It would appear that by the year 2025, the Hospital will be twice the size that it now is, and will have added many ancillary services that it does not presently have. Her thanks also to those that are Rotarians who serve on the various Boards of the Hospital

Please Note, there are many interesting programs coming up in the near future, and your support by attending our Tuesday noon meetings will be of great importance to the speakers as well as our Club.

Also, the program of 24 January will not have any Bucks in the Bay or activities of the Sergeant at Arms because of the 45 minute program by a well known woman who was part of the Holocaust during WW. Be there and bring a guest or two.

Finally, do not forget the motto for Rotary International this year, and that is SERVICE ABOVE SELF

And, did you know that our District Conference will be at Whistler in BC, Canada. Time to put your calendar in order, and place that great event during the month of May of 2006

A very HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of us.
