Program
Bob Rice introduced Jack Kienast, Director of the "Plantation Range", which is operated by the Whatcom County Parks Dept.  Jack started working for the County Parks Dept. in 1974. The shooting range was opened in 1969, located south of Bellingham on 60 acres of Trillium property. Hunters, recreational shooters, as well as law enforcement officials use it. It is a year-round facility with indoor galleries as well. Half the revenue comes from recreational shooters, half from law enforcement officials. The Plantation Range has a trap facility, and an indoor pistol and rifle range. Classes are taught on hunter education and firearms safety. Several shooting leagues use the facility. The range is at full utilization nowadays, as people accept the notion of paying a fee to shoot at a range. Also the facilities are in much better shape now; cleaner with better ventilation. Annual revenues of $200K match $200K in expenses.
