IMPORTANT DATE --- On Thursday, 12 February 2009, at Anthony's Hearthfire Grill, we will be holding our FIRESIDE meeting. It will be from 1730 to 1900 hours (that would be 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM). This meeting is designed to inform new members all about our Bellingham Bay Rotary Club, and we are asking that all new members joining our Club during Orphalee's presidency (1 July 2007-30 June 2008) as well as our current year (known as Tim McEvoy's Reign) be there for this most informative 90 minutes. The Board of Directors  and some 'old timers' will present valuable info about Our Club. More info to come.

Bill Gorman welcomed Frank Ordway, director of AMRE (American Museum of Radio and Electricity). Frank thanked Rotary for all its support of his work over the years.  AMRE is located on Bay street next to the new Pickford Cinema.  The museum presents the story of how electricity was discovered, harnessed and applied through over 400 years of scientific and artistic accomplishment, from 1600 through 1950.  It accomplishes this task in several ways:

Collections - The Museum houses a number of important artifacts from the development of electricity and radio, such as Edison's first light bulb;

Education - The Museum offers a variety of educational activities guaranteed to ignite the curiosity of students and visitors of all ages. Using its collection of electrical inventions and related artifacts as an inspiration, the Museum hosts over five thousand kids annually. The program has three main initiatives:
1) AMRE Outreach Program - Working throughout WWU, this initiative works directly with public schools, private schools and home school networks to offer assemblies, in class science courses and special focus tours to augment regular science curriculum.
2) AMRE Community Education Program - offers hands-on classes, tours and exhibits to the community at large focusing on the process of innovation, invention and the core facets of radio, electricity and physics.
3) AMRE Educator Program - Working directly with educators, AMRE offers special courses to increase grade school teachers' comfort and proficiency in teaching science.

Events - AMRE offers its facility as a unique event location. The space can accommodate over 300 people parties, retreats, meetings or special events.

KMRE 102.7 FM - Considered "The voice of the American Museum of Radio and Electricity," KMRE is an independent, community-based Low Power radio station owned and operated by the Museum since 2004. KMRE is a powerful and entertaining extension of the Museum, broadcasting educational, cultural and historically significant recordings , and streamed on the Internet to listeners all over the world. KMRE program showcases AMRE's vast and historical media collection. KMRE also cultivates local programming that provides educational, cultural and historical value to its listeners.

Respectfully committed,
