Program
District Governor elect, Larry Jubie, introduced current District Governor, Larry Stinson. Some facts about Larry S: He is a model train buff, his wife is a horse fanatic, he has a commercial orchard at his home, is a corporate attorney by profession, and spends the better of the year visiting all the clubs of the District.

Larry was born and raised in Roslyn, BC (home of Nancy Green, Canada's downhill Olympic Ski champion), then moved to Calgary, then headed to UBC for law school where he took up sailing. Met his wife, Karola, at university. After they married, they moved to Chilliwack where Larry first got involved in Rotary.

Larry talked about the vision of RI President Dong Kurn Lee for this year, to reduce child mortality throughout the world. Rotary's successes have already been dramatic: For example, polio eradication efforts have resulted in bringing the number of cases from 1,000 per day in 1988 to only 2,000 for all of 2007 - and total eradication of polio is in sight. Other important efforts in the fight against child mortality are sanitary improvements, water purification and malaria prevention.

Larry talked about group study exchanges and Rotary scholars that our district has sponsored this year.

He reminded us about the Rotary District 5050 Conference in Calgary, BC May 28-31, 2009, and the Rotary International Convention in Birmingham, England July 21-24, 2009.

Respectfully submitted,
Stowe Talbot
