Program
Cy introduced Dan Pike, candidate for Mayor. Dan decided to run last January. He started as unknown but through extensive doorbelling campaign he advanced past the primary in August. How does he distinguish himself from his rival (Dan McShane)? He feels everyone needs to be at the table when deciding important civic issues: Inclusionary government. For challenging topics like growth and Whatcom Watershed, he wants to focus on areas where consensus can be reached. He wants to build strong relationships and partnerships. His campaign has strived to be issue-focused and positive.

Question from audience: Can the county build a storm water sewer system around the lake? Pike: Unfortunately this would probably be prohibitively expensive. If it were possible, the county would have to prevent it from spurring further watershed development. Federal and State money will be mandatory for any realistic solution, and he has the experience to gain access to such funds.

Question from audience: Three biggest issues for the new administration? Pike: Lake Whatcom, waterfront re-development (with Pike's fish market), and public safety (downtown police foot patrols).

Respectfully submitted,
