Stew Ellison introduced Kevin Carey, a speaker and also a market manager at SPIE. SPIE is an international society advancing an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light. SPIE has members from all over the world who do research in the field of optics. SPIE has a very low profile in the world, but it's a very influential organization. Last year, for example, one of the Nobel Prize winners was a member of SPIE.
