Program
Dennis introduced Michelle Boxx to show slides and talk about RYLA program (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards).  RYLA is a four day camp help each spring for up to 80 participants, young people ages 18-25.  Each club in District 5050 can send two candidates (preferable a boy and girl) to the program.  Cost is $350 per candidate.  One year as participant.  If you stand out as a leader, you can be invited back as facilitator for another two years, then you can be head facilitator or work on the organizing committee.

Professional speakers come to talk.  Fun activities, an indoor and outdoor project and a "Legacy project":  Every year RYLA does a different "legacy project" in the community such as building a bridges (2002), firepits and stairs (2003), since 2006 they been doing projects in and around Zajac Ranch and Mission, BC.  RYLA is serious work, and play.  Rotarians are encouraged to visit.

In 2011 it will be held for the first time in the US at a camp off the Mt Baker Hwy.  We hope this will generate more interest from US candidates to attend.

Michelle, 25, was given the role of head facilitator last year and she said it was the toughest job she ever has done, but very rewarding and she learned a great deal.  Some of Michelle's goals are to travel the world, manage a restaurant, and eventually be a wife and mother.  RYLA really helped give her the self-confidence to achieve any goal she sets for herself.

Michelle told some interesting stories from her RYLA experience and the people she met there.

Respectfully submitted,
