Rotary club trivia: Rotary Club of Florence Italy

Bill says thanks everyone for another successful Grape & Gourmet, especially Anna!  Barry says there is a list of wines still available (see Barry at Padden Golf Club).  Pre-sales were a big success; the wineries were ecstatic!  Leena reported on auction: $8300 raised.  Donna presented Stowe, Brent, Curt and Steve K with presents for their donations to Pure Water (despite the lack of a fundraiser event!).

Program
Dennis introduced Ray Soriano, board member at Kids Council Northwest,  an organization that helps children and youth who have experienced loss of a loved one:

The TreeHouse provides a safe environment where children and their families grieving a death can share their experiences. Children and teens who have had a parent, sibling or primary care giver die often feel isolated. They may have difficulty in school or suffer from depression. Providing a safe place for children, teens and their families to come together in mutual support can help break isolation and offer hope.

It is a nonprofit run by volunteers, and eight trained counselors.

Tammy Grimes is a mom with two kids, who herself went through the death of a loved one (her husband) last year.  She was referred to the TreeHouse, one of the programs of Kids Council Northwest.  She is now a huge advocate of that program because of the positive work they provided to her and her kids.

Ray invited our club to find out more about the organization, and even consider helping (donation or volunteer as board member).  Eventually the organization would like to have it's own space, such as a house, out of which to operate.

Respectfully submitted,
Stowe Talbot
