Student of the Month

....GEORGE BOWEN introduced the month of December recipient of 'The Outstanding Student' from Squalicum High, and that was Glen MacKay. He brought his mom and grandmother along with school counselor, Terri White. Glen has an outstanding record of volunteer work during the past five years, and is an "A" student. We must agree that this program is one on the PLUS side of Rotary.----Oh yes, he also received a $100 honorarium -- not bad, to say the least. Thanks GEORGE for all of the work you do with this program during the past many years.

Program

....TIM McEVOY introduced our speaker, and that was (and is) Dr. Ian Thompson, and he gave a very interesting and informative recitation on a piece of equipment that is located here in Bellingham (at the Hospital), and its name is a Tomo Therapy Device, and the cost is a mere 3 Million smackeroos. It is the only one in this area north of Los Angeles, and it can perform near miracles in locating and treating cancerous cells. The Doctor applauded our own member, BOB NEWELL,for his involvement with the Hospital's tumor Board back in the 1970's and because of BOBS efforts, all of this came about. Our thanks for a great program -- you just needed to be there to appreciate the imnpact that this piece of equipment has on medical progress.
