Program

Rachael Meyer with the Whatcom Literacy Council:  The council was formed in 1978 and has been expanding ever since. Their goal is to empower adults to change their lives through literacy. We sometimes take for granted how much reading plays a part in our lives; from reading safety manuals and contracts to street signs and books.

Rachael started tutoring/mentoring others twelve years ago in Kansas City and was inspired by the results.

The Department of Education performed a study in 2006 which indicated that 1 of 6 in Whatcom County is functionally illiterate.

Respectfully submitted,
Chris White
