Program:
David Lewis Manager and part owner of Bellingham Bells. He's a Rotarian from Tacoma looking for a local Rotary and is "interviewing" us. Bells are owned by the Brett Brothers franchise who also own a hockey and baseball team in Spokane and a hockey team in Pasco. And a Bat company "Brett Bats". David was a previous AAA owner.
Team was purchased from Tony Larson who had no full time employees and little resources for the league. With new operators and 3 full time employees it will make the team better. Bobby Brett is 75% owner with brother George who played for the KC Royals and is in the Hall of Fame. He'll be doing a signing night at one of the games. Philosophy - Customer service is #1, clean ball park, cold beer and hot Hotdogs (new hotdog - the "Mt. Baker Dog" footlong and ½ lb. "it's a site to behold".) friendly staff and full customer service staff training. Partnering with the City for a 10 year lease extension and pledging $50k for improvements to the ball park. Hopes to partner with other teams using the park.
Opportunities include ticket sales packages; season ticket packages that are flexible like a package starting at 6 games and a package for 20 tickets to be used at buyer's discretion. 7 of the players are local talent all are in college. West Coast Collegiate Baseball League, therefore, players are not paid, but the coach is the scout for the Brewer's so he's looking at the talent on the field all the time. Because of the league they are not affiliated with any major league team which gives them more flexibility. Most of the players are freshmen and sophomores; therefore they will be with the team for a couple years. They are contracted but only to the extent that the will only play for the Bells. Doesn't mean they can't quit the team and play on another team.
The league was a fledgling league with only 8 teams from south of Bend to Kalona. Hopes to expand the league to 10 teams and include Montana and Canada. June 6 is opening night.
