Program
Mike Impero â¿¢ Research and experience in lone jack mining in Whatcom County:
Mike was raised in Maple Falls. Lone Jack was the original gold mine this side of Whatcom County. Three prospectors camped at Twin Lakes in 1897 to prospect high up. They saw a vein up the side of Bear Mountain. Jack Post finds the vein and can see gold in it. Brings samples of ore back to camp. Next morning they go back up to file mining claims. Process to be followed to establish claims. It was found that the vein had valuable gold in it. This caused a gold rush in Whatcom county, lots of people going up to the mountains. Four day trip to get in and out of mine. Real estate companies sold mining claims, lots of interest for gold in Whatcom County. Lots of legal problems with the mine. The original prospectors sold their claims to Portland company, and it remains today in private ownership. It took two years to get equipment up to mine site. Mine ran from 1903-1907. Averaged a million dollars of gold per month based on today's standards. Mine building burned down in 1907, but still operating today. Mike is writing a book on the events.

Respectfully Submitted,
