And now, THE PROGRAM:..

Bellingham Mayor Tim Douglas gave a thirty minute recitation regarding the 'State of the City', and it did include some four principal items that he discussed in detail, to include the Water Front situation; the condition of the Whatcom Lake water and what was to happen there; the opportunity that we have to put our input as to the direction the City will be heading; and lastly, the mention of some of the Historical spots in the City. Well, it was all most interesting, and if you just happened to miss this message, better luck next time. By the way, the Mayor was so interesting that he kept us there until about 1340 hours, and that certainly indicates that he had some interesting items that were presented.

Miscellaneous

...At the Board of Directors Meeting on Wednesday 9 May 2007, some of the items that were discussed and approved included the acceptance of five candidates for the soon to be RYLA event (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) in June, and those who have been accepted are: Clare HARDESTY (sponsor is RON), Megan UNREIN (sponsor is BILL), Jennifer Moore (sponsor is ZACHARY JONES), Michelle Wendling (sponsor is KATHY CHELDELIN), Aaron Quilliam (sponsor is BRAD CLURE) and Amy Lee (sponsor is KEN OPLINGER). The RYLA program is one of the very best programs that RI has, and our Club must be congratulated for being this involved. Keep young folks in mind for next year -- remember, anyone is eligible between the ages of 18 and 24, so keep your eyes and ears focused on RYLA. during ORPHALEE'S reign .

...A mention for the Club's Interact group out of Squalicum High School with Josephine Garcia as the leader. They will be putting together 70 Mother's Day baskets, and they will be handed out to six groups in our Community who are able to give them to needy mothers for Mother's Day. Thanks goes to our own DAN WILKERSON, who is the Club's advisor. By the way, he does need your help next year, so if you can spare a little time each month, either contact DAN or our soon to be President, ORPHALEE.

...And now a mention from the Scholarship Committee, SARAH ROTHENBUHLER, in charge. On Wednesday, 23 May, some seven of our members will be interviewing about 10 Squalicum High School candidates for the purpose of handing out 6, $1,000 Scholarships. The interviews will be at the School, and will go from 1000 hours to 1400 hours. those selected will be given the Scholarships on Tuesday evening, 5 June 2007. The group that will be doing the interviews will be SARAH, STEVE BRUMMEL, STEPHANIE SADLER, BILL GORMAN, TERRY BROWN and STAN DYER; President BARRY will also attend to see that we do the job right!! ---Another way that our Club is doing positive things in our Community.

If you are interested, kick it around with BRENT WALKER (for the Club's foundation) or BOB YOST for the PAUL HARRIS program. Both are tax deductible!!

...There is still time to sign up for the Rotary District 5050 Conference at Harrison Hot Springs. the dates are 31 May thru 3 June, 2007. See BARRY for details.
