Eddie Hansen reminded us about the fellowship golf event for May 25th, 12:30 PM. It will be at Lake Padden Golf Club; it will be very informal, if you are a non-golfer you can even walk with a group and only do the putting, etc. Please sign up with Eddie by Email or phone!

Dan Wilkerson reminded us about our Squalicum Interact club's project, "Mothers Day Baskets" for mom's in need.  They need cash or donations by this weekend.

Board meeting TOMORROW at 7:30 am at Bellingham Golf and Country Club.

Charitable Giving
Bill Unrein presented Diane Norman, chairman of the Bellingham Festival of Music, with a check for $1,800.  The money goes to support the "Beethoven in the Schools" program for 3rd graders in Whatcom County Schools.  Total cost of the program is $6,000, and it is supported by GP and WECU also.

Program
Orphalee introduced Julie Shirley, managing editor (since 2003) of the Bellingham Herald.  Gannett purchased the paper 30 years ago, then it was sold to Knight Ridder last year, now it has been sold to McClasky Corp.  The competition these days is mainly citizen/community newspapers as well as blogs.  Julie explained that the editorial and reporting sides of the paper are kept separate.  The Herald is putting more effort into its Website, which has many thousands of hits per day and growing.  The Herald also produces a few specialty publications like "Whatcom Magazine", which has features but not news.  Most revenues come from classifieds and ads, not subscriptions.

Respectfully Submitted,
