Program
Bill introduced Mark ? and Carl Garrison from Sedro Wooly Rotary club.  They described a water project they are doing in West Africa - in Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta).  They showed slides from a recent trip they took there with nine people to drill wells for safe drinking water.

The Sedro Wooly Rotary club and a Denver Rotary club jointly sponsored this project 4 years ago.  This most recent trip was to drill a well for fresh water.  They worked through a local Rotary club there. The locals had never seen so many white faces together at the same time.  They received a very warm welcome.

Burkina Faso has extreme poverty.  Transportation is by foot, donkey, bicycle or moped.
Burkina Faso rated one of the worst places for human habitation in the world.  Education is K-3, free, 100 kids per room and only about 20% population attend.  Burkina Faso is a former French colony.  Population 14 million.  Malnutrition and water born illnesses are major propblems. Current water comes from hand-dug wells and not very sanitary or clean, or from seasonal rivers.  New wells are 140 ft down - very well designed and clean.

Respectfully submitted,
