Ron introduced Sandra Berner, Executive Director of Whatcom Center for Early Learning (WCEL). Our club presented her with a check for $5,000. WCEL provides family-centered parent-child therapeutic playgroups for children with special needs like Down Syndrome or autism. WCEL also provides speech therapies and parent-to-parent support groups at their facility ("the big blue house") at the corner of H and Girard. They receive some State and county grants, but private donations are critical.
Sergeant at Arms: Patti Imhof Ron Hardesty's Harley, Bob Moles' 60th birthday, Bill Gorman's Comcast rates, Bill Pledge Pleadge of Allegiance, Pete Rittmueller's facial hair, no Rotary pins, Frank Zurline tee time, Cy Lindberg "mover and shaker" (?), Orphalee's jeans, Media/PR items.

Program: Ron Hardesty thanked the club for a wonderful year as President during Rotary's Centennial. He appreciated everyone's enthusiasm and can-do attitude, the fun camaraderie. It was a banner year for money raised and given away ($37,000).

His goal had been to "shake things up" and do things a little different. Some of his successes: Everyone gets to share in the flag salute and invocation, Centennial Project at Taylor Dock, birth of Grape & Gourmet Fundraiser, success of Pure Water project, revamped the "charitable donations" committee, secured matching grant from District, youth and vocational service, idea of giving speakers a certificate. Fell short on: Mentoring new members, hands-on projects, public relations, Polio Plus pledges, and 100% sustaining members Paul Harris.

Ron gave special recognition to: Anna, Frank Chmelik, Tonja, Joel, Jim Olsen, Curtis Dye, Gordon Plume, Brad Cornwall, Carol Beecher, Cy , Glendine, Steve Brummel, Orphalee Smith, Sarah Rothenbuhler, George Bowen, Barry, Stowe, Bill U, Jack Grant, Stan, Dan Wilkerson, Robin, Todd and Eddie. Ron also presented the first of a yearly award for outstanding club service: Bob Moles for his work developing the Pure Water project and our spearheading our club's leadership role.

Phil X wins the raffle.

Respectfully Submitted, Stowe Talbot
