Program Steve Kimberly introduced Trudy and Joe Scherting of Moka Joe's coffee. About six years ago Trudy was a stay-at-home mom decided to get back into the workforce. First, she went to work selling coffee roasters for Jerry Whitfield (Lummi Island), inventor of the one-pound roaster. Then she decided to start the Moka Joe's company. Now the coffee label is on the shelves in over 200 stores. She wants to focus on pesticide-free growers. Also buys her coffee bean using Fair Trade principles (where they pay the farmer directly). Now their coffee is kosher-certified, and they contribute to NW Shade Campaign (to encourage growing of coffee under the tropical tree canopy).
