We opened this Tuesday afternoon with President Bill clanging the BELL rather briskly, and that awakened two un-named members at table Number 11 with a start.

Flag Salute and Invocation performed by Steve Brummel, followed by guest and visiting Rotarian introductions by Patti Imhof.

BUCKS in the BAY. The admissions of those things that needed to be admitted to were somewhat scanty, but we did manage to get a whopping $78 from Art Runestrand who had a birthday on 8/8 and a dollar or two out of our President as well as a few bucks from the likes of Eddie Hansen who admitted to being absent for a week or two; Matt Rose for some sort of infraction; Bill Unrein for admitting that he had forgotten one of his children's names when he introduced the two a few years' back; Pete Rittmueller for some thing or another!; Ken Oplinger because he noted that there were a number of guests at our meeting from St. Johns Hospital who were there to see how he did with his recent surgical procedure (rather well, we would note); Judge Nichols for some sort of confidential admission.

Then came that formidable SGT of Arms, Patti Imhof, who noted initially that the Bucks in the Bay were rather paltry, and she would make up for the lack of dollars for the kitty by hitting everyone hard (but no fine for the wearers of shorts!).
1. All those who did not purchase a raffle ticket were hit for two bucks each;
2. Judge Nichols for not wearing a helmet on his motorcycle ride (that needs to be investigated a wee bit!);
3. 2 Bucks for all of those who had their cell phone activated (a matter of the 4-Way Test here);
4. Art (78 years old) Runestrand, who was the MC at the recent Bellingham Hi School Reunion Dinner, and he said a naughty word--Art's immediate response from his table was, "Aw Sh--".!
5. Mike Kirkland for keeping his Lap Top activated while at a meeting;
6. Jerry Simmons for selling a car (a Porsche, no less) for that very famous Porsche Dealership in Bellingham;
7. Byron Sprague for hiring a new employee (for all we know, that might have been Jerry);
8. And a buck or two for anyone who was affiliated with the Hospital in any way -- that generated a few greenbacks.

PROGRAM for the DAY - Ed Zech introduced retired Rear Admiral Bill McDaniels (an Orthopedic Surgeon) of Oak Harbor (and he is a Rotarian, by the by), who recently spent 3 months in the Indonesian Island of Sumatra. He was asked to assist in the medical needs of those thousands who were injured during the Tsunami that hit that area on 26 December of 2004. He related many heart wrenching stories of those young (and old) people who were injured, and he also accompanied his intriguing stories with slides of many. He noted that they were wonderful people, and most appreciative of the efforts that were made in the rehabilitation of that ravaged area. One of the very best programs in many a day.

TAKE NOTE: District 5050 will be holding its District Conference at Whistler, BC, during the latter part of May of 2006 -- more information will be in your hands soon, so plan to attend -- it would be great if we had a large contingent there to celebrate Rotary at the District Conference.

RI PRESIDENT Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar of Sweden, whose Theme for the year is SERVICE ABOVE SELF, has noted that the month of August is Membership and Extension month, and that all Rotarians should do their very best in sponsoring a Rotarian during this 2005-2006 Rotary Year. There are many candidates out there in the City of Bellingham--it is up to each of us to be alert to that individual who would make a Good Rotarian--Prospective Rotary applications may be obtained from our esteemed secretary, G. Dennis Archer.

Respectfully submitted, Stan Dyer
