Program
Derek Johnson was born in NYC but raised in Bellingham. He attended Sehome HS, UW, U of Houston, and now he has two companies; Tatango and Drerik Media.
Derek talked about "social networking" and "social media". He said Tatango is a new service that allows you to send out mass text messages. It now has over 10,000 subscribers. $0 spent on advertising. "Derek Media" is his other company that just deals with teaching and consulting on social media and strategy. The three main avenues for social media:
1) Facebook - 300 million users. Post pictures video, content, etc. Business are now using it via "fan pages". It's about interacting with customers - not just talking AT them.
2) Twitter - service that allows you to post what you are doing RIGHT NOW. Opportunities for businesses as well; creating a "buzz". Group text messaging. 3) Blogs - for businesses, it's about a vitual "running newspaper" about what is going on at your business (as opposed to a static Website).
