Program
Brad Cornwell welcomed Dan Raas, serves on the candidate committee (together with John McGarrity) for the Whatcom Democrats. http://www.whatcomdemocrats.org . Dan and John’s role is to talk to potential candidates who want to run for office and educate them on what it will take to run for (and win) a local seat in government.  They also vet candidates, explain the local Democrat’s platform, but they don’t have a specific “litmus test” for the candidates, or hold them to the platform. Certified “endorsed” democrats have access to the Whatcom Democrats’ resources, expertise and volunteers.  Dan talked about the process by which the local Democratic caucuses help update the policy that will be reflected Whatcom Party platform (http://www.whatcomdemocrats.org/about/#platform-resolutions). Whatcom’s platform trends more “progressive” compared to the State’s or National Democratic platforms.
