Program
Our member Ralph Black talked about his volunteer service on the Civil Air Patrol, most recently working on the Oso disaster site. Ralph told about being called in to deploy early this Sunday morning.  Within a couple hours he and his colleagues were in the air in the Oso Darrington valley.  He had several tasks, including deconflicting air traffic in the area (obviously there were many helicopters and planes flying in and out), also he was photographing the face of the slide area sometimes within 50 feet of the ground.  He was also asked to provide TFR enforcement to air traffic in the area.  Ralph said the view of the disaster from the air is breathtaking in its magnitude.  He really admires the tenacity of the hundred of volunteers on the ground toiling in the cold and mud.

Ralph worked a 12-hr shift all day Sunday, other crews went in on Monday.  The slide was named an official “federal disaster event” on Monday.

Coming programs:  Next week we will host Sen. Doug Erickson, then April 12 Mike Cohen will have update on Food Bank expansion, then April 22 Col. Richard Iversen will talk on the Veterans’ Airlift Command providing flights for wounded warriors, later Prof. Eric Meyer will introduce WWU masters capstone projects, also we will have presentation by local REI store, also on May 13 we will go to Bham Tech College for lunch and visit to welding studio.  Bill still has a few more dates to fill, so please submit your ideas for speakers!

Marilyn Olsen wins the raffle.
