Program

Brad Cornwell introduced Corrinne Sande & Janice Walker from the CIS/Cybersecurity program at Whatcom Community College.  WCC now offers a cyber security degree, and the demand for those jobs are growing exponentially.

The WWU program is part of the Catalyzing Computing and Cybersecurity in Community Colleges (C5). C5 is an NSF-funded project to support the creation of a nationwide network of community colleges that have met national standards in cybersecurity education, producing more and better-prepared graduates for the workforce, and ultimately leading to a more secure nation.  https://www.c5colleges.org

2017 named WCC’s program a “Center of Academic Excellence” by NSA.

Benefits of the NSA grants: recognition, enrollment growth, help finding jobs, attracting students here from outside the area.

The center also offers cybersecurity camps for middle and high schoolers during summer break.

There is an annual cyber-defense competition where WCC sends a team.

There are about 300 individuals now enrolled in the program.

Offer certificates and degrees.

Respectfully submitted,
