Monday night June 26th 6pm-ish: Changing of the Guard party at the VFW hall, with music by the Atlantics!
 
Steve Kimberly with reminder the annual BBRC International Committee fundraiser dinner at Ciao Thyme will be Thursday night, 6pm June 1st, cost $190/person, half of which is tax deductible donation to the committee. Please sign up!
 
District 5050 encouraging incoming HS juniors to apply for the YES (Youth Engagement Service) program next year which culminates in a 2 week trip abroad.
 
Student of the Month: Mike Bates introduced Julio Enriques. Julio has taken many AP and honors classes, and has been on the honor roll all during high school.  He plays in orchestra and runs track & field. Some of his serice work has involved drug prevention service, and the Interact club. Lighthouse Mission is his charity of choice.

New Member Application:  Dan Berry is a loan officer with Heritage Bank.  He was a Rotarian previously with Poulsbo Kitsap North Rotary (he was voted Rotarian of the Year in 2015).  He has volunteered in various Rotary fundraising events and served as mentor for the Poulsbo Interact club.  His wife is Jayne Barry, and his hobbies include sewing, cycling and archery.  Dan is sponsored by Lesa Boxx.

  • Dannon has a fun weekend in Friday Harbor with gal friends;
  • John Purdie was in Vegas to see daughter graduate from UNLV -  very huge and surreal ceremony - other daughter will be getting married here in Bellingham in couple weeks;
  • Tim Krell has been biking a lot, will ride the Ski to Sea cycling leg, and some hockey news;
  • Eric Chambers missed meeting next week to to St. Thomas Caribbean!
  • Doug Wight adda girl to Christine for NautiGirl travails;
  • Aaron Lemperes went camping with the fam in a camper at Thousand Trails;
  • Phil X Hageman officiated at wedding successfully;
  • Christine has had productive week, was interviewed on Komo News, Bham Biz Journal, etc. ongoing GoFundMe campaign to fight Nautica.
  • Brent Walker last week in Florida to attend daughter’s beach wedding!
  • Jim Johnson has returned from 6 months Snow-Birding in CA;

Program
Aaron Lemperes from Charitable Giving Committee introduced several of our recipient organizations, who each came forward to thank our club for the donation and to tell us a little about how the money will be spent.
  • Rhiannon Bardsley, executive director, Northwest Youth Services https://www.nwys.org, our money goes to the PAD project;
  • Trudy Shuravloff, executive director, The Whatcom Dream https://thewhatcomdream.org, teaching financial literacy to low income people, and fighting generational poverty.
  • John Purdie, development director, Mount Baker Theatre, our money will go to fund 20 full-ride scholarships to attend Missoula Children's summer camps.
  • Julie Guay from Blue Skies for Children http://www.blueskiesforchildren.org, works with low-income families, $2000 went to support shoes, backpacks, winter clothes, swimming program, etc.
  • Karen Ekdahl, executive director from Bellingham Childcare & Learning Center http://www.bellinghamchildcare.com, for Early Learning, low income and high-risk children. provides high quality, affordable childcare to families of all income levels, assisting low-income families to become self sufficient.
  • Steve White, board member, represented Brigadoon Service Dogs http://www.brigadoondogs.org , which provides trained service dogs for veterans, children, adults with physical, developmental, and behavioral health disabilities to promote a more independent and enriched life.
  • Kait Whiteside, executive director from Max Higby Center http://www.maxhigbee.org for teens and adults with mental disabilities, creating warms safe environment, Mon-Saturday, $ to nutritional educational program. 
  • Judy Lockwood, grants coordinator/contact for the Assistance League of Bellingham http://assistanceleaguebellingham.org: Our money will be used for such philanthropic projects as Operation Schoolbell which provides new clothing to low-income elementary school children and foster kids.
